Chewing Hides The Sound is the debut solo album by Snakefinger, released in 1979 on Ralph Records.

History Edit

Chewing Hides The Sound was recorded by Snakefinger in collaboration with The Residents, who co-produced and co-wrote many of the songs on the album with him and also performed much of the instrumentation.

The album has the distinction of featuring the first recorded cover version of Kraftwerk's "The Model"; it also features a cover of "Magic and Ecstasy" by Ennio Morricone from the score of John Boorman's film Exorcist II: The Heretic.

Chewing Hides The Sound also introduces "Picnic In The Jungle", which would later be performed by The Residents with Snakefinger in 1986 on their 13th Anniversary Show tour.

"Picnic In The Jungle" would be combined with The Residents' "Aircraft Damage" in 1992 to create "Kick A Picnic" for the mash-up album Our Finest Flowers.
